Undefeated Dalton Smith targets Shakur Stevenson super-lightweight bout

Dalton Smith has declared himself confident of defeating Shakur Stevenson if the two super-lightweight champions meet. The undefeated Briton is targeting a unification fight with the American, who has not yet named an opponent for his Zuffa Boxing debut.

Smith currently holds the WBC super-lightweight title after stopping Subriel Matias in the fifth round in January. His next assignment is a mandatory defence against former champion Alberto Puello, scheduled for October 24.

The Sheffield fighter has identified Stevenson as a preferred opponent beyond that bout. He has known the American since their amateur days and believes a fight between them would carry major significance for his career, whether staged in the United Kingdom or Las Vegas.

Stevenson remains the WBO super-lightweight champion. The 29-year-old strengthened his standing in January by beating Teofimo Lopez on points, a result that made him a four-division world champion and further established him among boxing’s leading pound-for-pound fighters.

Stevenson signed a multi-fight agreement with Dana White’s promotional company earlier this year, but his first fight under the Zuffa Boxing banner has yet to be arranged. There is no confirmed date or venue for his next appearance, while his plans for the remainder of 2026 remain unclear.

A victory over Puello would leave Smith in position to pursue the proposed meeting in 2027. Stevenson could still choose to defend the WBO belt or move away from the 140-pound division, meaning the potential unification depends on both fighters remaining at super-lightweight.
