Uruguay name 2026 Americas Rugby Championship roster for new era

Uruguay have named their squad for the 2026 Americas Rugby Championship, which will be played in Chile from August 29 to September 6. The four-team tournament will feature Argentina XV, Chile XV, Paraguay and Uruguay XV across three match days.

The competition is the first major assignment for Uruguay’s new coaching regime. It will also serve as preparation for the World Rugby Nations Cup test matches scheduled for November, giving the new setup an early opportunity to assess its options.

The squad combines established campaigners with players who represented Los Teritos at this year’s World Rugby Junior World Championship. Eight members of the roster featured at the U20 global tournament: Juan Francisco Bessio, Guillermo Curuchet, Manuel Ponte, Sebastián Pérez, Pedro Suárez, Mateo Sosa, Bruno Baccino and Justo Ferrario.

Ferrario began Super Rugby Americas 2026 as Peñarol’s starting fly half. He missed Uruguay’s July test window because it overlapped with the Junior World Championship, but he has already appeared for the senior side during the November 2025 tour of Europe.

The experienced group includes forwards Felipe Aliaga, Manuel Diana, Ignacio Dotti, Ignacio Péculo and Reinaldo Piussi, along with backs Juan Manuel Alonso and Felipe Arcos Pérez. Other named players include props Mateo Perillo and Sebastián Pérez, flankers Lucas Bianchi and Faustino Etchegorry, scrum-halves Santiago Álvarez, Pedro Hoblog and Ignacio Rodríguez Bosch, and centres Manuel Parodi and Joaquín Suárez.

Uruguay begin against Chile XV at Estadio CAP Acero in Talcahuano on August 29. They then face Argentina XV at Escuela Militar in Santiago on September 2 before completing the tournament against Paraguay at Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander in Valparaíso on September 6. The champion will be decided by competition points.
