Wagoina, Ddungu fire Express past KCCA 2-0 in UPL 2026-27

Express defeated KCCA 2-0 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, with Isaac Wagoina and Derrick Ddungu scoring after the break in the Uganda Premier League.

The match began with Express pressing for an advantage. Wagoina went down inside the KCCA penalty area after an early challenge, but referee Atiku allowed play to continue. The referee later needed medical attention, causing a short interruption to the game.

KCCA created the clearer chances before half-time. Saidi Mayanja’s effort struck the crossbar, while Sammy Ssebaduka then supplied Charles Lwanga, whose attempt was kept out by Express goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya. The sides therefore went into the interval level.

Express took the lead six minutes into the second half. Wagoina kept his composure in front of goal and beat KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa to give the hosts the advantage. Henry Wamala then came close to adding another, but his shot also hit the woodwork.

KCCA pushed for an equaliser late in the match, leaving space behind their defence. Express took advantage in stoppage time when Ddungu finished after a lapse at the back, confirming the 2-0 victory.

The result came against contrasting recent records. Express had won two of their five previous matches, alongside two defeats and a draw, while KCCA had recorded three wins and two draws in the same sequence. Express were listed 16th with no points after no matches, and KCCA fifth with the same points and match totals, before this fixture. The victory gives Express a positive result against the side that arrived with the stronger recent form.
