Yemi Daniel rejects Shooting Stars head coach vacancy

Yemi Daniel has officially turned down the opportunity to take over as head coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC). The tactician released a statement addressing the links to the vacant position in Ibadan, making it clear he will not move to the club at this time.

The vacancy at the Ibadan-based club follows the dismissal of head coach Nurudeen Aweroro, assistant coach Shakiru Lawal, and team manager Tammy Tamuno. The board terminated the technical bench after a 3-0 friendly loss to Ikorodu City, despite Aweroro recently leading the team to a third-place NPFL finish and ending a thirty-year continental drought.

Daniel cited his commitment to his current contract at Rivers United as the primary reason for his refusal. He stated that he intends to honour his existing obligations in Port Harcourt until the end of the season, noting that he does not wish to abandon an ongoing project halfway through.

In his remarks, Daniel praised the professional environment at Rivers United. He highlighted the support from the club hierarchy and his boss, 'ElFINITO', stating that the trust placed in his tactical vision makes it impossible for him to leave the club currently.

While rejecting the immediate offer, Daniel noted that he holds respect for the values and credibility required in coaching. He expressed that he remains honoured to be linked with the historic institution of Shooting Stars and suggested he would be open to considering a union with the club in the future.

The decision leaves Shooting Stars searching for new leadership ahead of their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup fixture against CS Sfaxien.
