2026 transfer deadline day closes with major deals and free moves

The 2026 summer transfer window ended with major Premier League spending, loan agreements and a small number of free transfers. Tottenham were among the busiest clubs, allowing at least 40 players to leave while bringing in no fewer than 10 first-team signings for Roberto De Zerbi.

Tottenham’s spending reached at least £394 million. Their main arrivals included Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United for £92.5 million plus £7.5 million in add-ons, Savio from Manchester City for £75 million plus £10 million in potential extras, and Luka Vuskovic from Brighton for £46 million plus £4 million. Tosin Adarabioyo also moved from Chelsea for an initial £10 million, with a further £2 million possible.

The club also agreed several deals involving future payments. Omar Marmoush joined from Manchester City on loan with a £50 million obligation to buy and £10 million in add-ons, while Mykhailo Mudryk arrived from Chelsea on loan with a £75 million purchase option. Kevin Danso moved to Sunderland on a loan containing an obligation worth £22.5 million if Sunderland avoid relegation. Dane Scarlett joined Leyton Orient for no initial fee, with add-ons and a sell-on clause, while Pele Arganese-McDermott and Leon Myrtaj made free moves before their contracts ended.

Manchester City completed the £125 million signing of Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, matching the British transfer record. The champions also signed Iliman Ndiaye from Everton for £60 million, with another £5 million available in add-ons. Elsewhere, Sunderland paid about £31 million for Lyon forward Malick Fofana, and Robert Sanchez joined Como on loan from Chelsea.

Arsenal made at least 11 signings but did not add an elite forward. Nine players left the club, including Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, while Ethan Nwaneri moved to Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan. Chelsea signed Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor, who will join in 2027, and completed Marc Guiu’s permanent transfer to RB Leipzig.
