Abraiz scores century as Uganda beat Ghana by 175 runs

Uganda's Baby Cricket Cranes secured a 175-run victory over Ghana in their third match of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers-Division Two. Abraiz Mir led the batting effort with a century, helping Uganda reach a total of 270 for eight in their 50 overs. Ghana was subsequently bowled out for 95, handing Uganda a dominant win at the Rwanda Polytechnic College.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Uganda faced early setbacks when Samuel Ahaisibwe fell for 19 and Devanshkumar Patel was dismissed for 0. However, Abraiz Mir and captain Daniel Alex Rubangakene stabilized the innings. Rubangakene contributed 60 runs before being caught behind, while Robert Owili joined Abraiz to push the score past 100. Abraiz accelerated his scoring after a water break, reaching his century before being run out on the final ball of the innings.

Ghana's bowling attack was led by Lee Nyarko, who took three wickets for 46 runs. Other bowlers, including Prince Ago, Stanley Carson, Annoh, and Jacob Ayolehene, each claimed one wicket. Uganda's total of 270 provided a significant cushion heading into the second innings.

In response, Ghana struggled to build momentum against Uganda's bowling. Jackson Asiku provided the first breakthrough in the sixth over, and Yellison Elisha Frimpong was run out in the 11th. Richard Sohera played a key role in the middle overs, taking two wickets to leave Ghana at 51 for four. Asiku and Devanshkumar Patel also contributed to the collapse, with Patel taking his second wicket of the match to dismiss Ebenezer Ahakutor and end the innings.

This result marks Uganda's third consecutive win in the tournament as they pursue Division One status. The team will next face Sierra Leone at the Gahanga Cricket Oval B on Thursday, August 12.
