Adekunle sisters reach KWAFEST 8.0 badminton final after 2-0 wins

Gbotemi and Feranmi Adekunle won their KWAFEST 8.0 semi-finals 2-0 to create an all-family women’s singles badminton final.

Gbotemi and Feranmi Adekunle will face each other in the women’s singles badminton final at KWAFEST 8.0 after both sisters won their semi-finals 2-0. The result guarantees the Adekunle family the gold medal, with the title now set to go to either Ilorin South or Asa Local Government.

Gbotemi, representing Ilorin South Local Government, defeated Khairat Abdulkadir of Ilorin West. She established control in the opening game, winning 21-10, before closing out the match with a 21-12 success in the second game.

Feranmi, who competes for Asa Local Government, secured the other place in the final against Babatunde Laide of Ilorin East. She took the first game 21-12 and maintained her advantage to win the second 21-14.

The semi-final scores underline the sisters’ efficient progress through the knockout stage. Both have remained unbeaten in their knockout matches, and each now stands one victory away from becoming the KWAFEST 8.0 women’s singles champion.

The final will bring two members of the same family onto opposite sides of the court, while also placing different local government areas in contention for the title. Gbotemi will represent Ilorin South, and Feranmi will carry Asa’s challenge into the championship match.

Their meeting gives the Adekunle family a guaranteed gold medal and adds a family dimension to the closing match of the badminton women’s singles event. The outcome will determine which sister finishes the competition as champion.
