Ghana secure best Olympic qualifying haul in 64 years at 2026 Grand Slam

Ghana won four medals at the 2026 Badminton Grand Slam in Accra, their strongest Olympic qualifying performance in 64 years.

Ghana recorded its strongest Olympic qualifying performance in badminton for 64 years after collecting four medals at the 2026 Badminton Grand Slam in Accra. The team finished the ten-day competition with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

The tournament was held at the Borteyman Sports Complex and brought together competitors from 38 nations. It ended on Sunday, August 16, with Ghana securing its best result in the event’s history over the stated 64-year period.

Moslena Ama Korama Adu and Rachel Quarcoo delivered the country’s gold medal in the women’s seniors’ doubles. Their partnership provided Ghana’s top finish as the home team converted its participation into four podium places.

The result adds to a strong run for Ghanaian badminton over the past year. Teams from the country have collected 29 medals across six international tournaments staged in Ghana during that period.

Ghana also won four medals at the African Youth Games in Angola. Those results, combined with the Grand Slam haul in Accra, give the country a broader sequence of medal performances at both global and continental level.

The four-medal return makes the 2026 Grand Slam a landmark competition for Ghanaian badminton. The gold, silver and two bronze medals also give the national programme its most significant Olympic qualifying result in more than six decades.
