Chelle confirms Super Eagles squad for AFCON 2027 qualifiers

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has announced his squad is ready for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers and hinted at including three new players.

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has confirmed that his squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers is prepared. The Super Eagles coach indicated that his selection for the September fixtures is finalized, though he suggested that as many as three new players could be introduced to the team.

Nigeria is placed in Group L for the qualification phase. The Super Eagles will compete against Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, and co-hosts Tanzania. Because Tanzania is hosting the tournament, only one team from this group will secure qualification.

Chelle emphasized the importance of a strong start to the campaign to avoid dropping points early. He noted that the team must begin the qualifiers well to ensure they stay on track for qualification. The first matchday of the qualifiers is scheduled to begin on September 21, 2026.

Nigeria will host Madagascar in Uyo on September 23, 2026, marking their opening fixture of the group. The final tournament is set to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027, with Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania serving as the joint hosts.

Regarding the squad composition, Chelle stated that he has the players necessary to compete in the September matches. He added that there is a possibility of integrating three new faces into the national team during this period.
