Alex Asamoah claims status as one of Asante Kotoko's best strikers

Former Asante Kotoko forward Alex Asamoah has declared himself among the greatest strikers in the history of the Kumasi-based club. The 40-year-old attacker made these claims during an interview with Angel FM, reflecting on his tenure with the Porcupine Warriors.

Asamoah played for the club between 2008 and 2010, a period during which he became a central figure in their attacking line. His most notable achievement during this spell was finishing as the Ghana Premier League top scorer with 16 goals.

Comparing his era to more recent seasons, Asamoah noted that the club has found it difficult to produce a consistent league top scorer since his departure. He referenced Mbella, who scored 21 goals, but pointed out that he still fell short of the scoring leader, Yaw Annor.

Before joining Kotoko in 2008, the striker built his reputation at Berekum Arsenal and Ashantigold. His three-year stint at Ashantigold starting in 2005 helped establish him as a prolific player before his move to the Ghanaian giants.

Following his time in Kumasi, Asamoah moved abroad to play for South Korean outfit Gyeongnam FC on loan and later joined Algerian side ES Sétif. His career later saw him return to the Ghana Premier League with a second spell at Ashantigold and a period with Aduana FC.

Although he is 40 years old, the former marksman has not officially announced his retirement from professional football.
