Andre Ayew confirms FC Nania CEO role amid GFA presidency talk

Andre Ayew has confirmed that he has served as chief executive officer of FC Nania for several years, adding a new dimension to reports linking him with a possible Ghana Football Association presidency bid in 2027.

The Ghana captain disclosed his role during an appearance on the Obi One Podcast, hosted by former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi in Accra on Sunday. Ayew’s position at Nania had not previously been widely known.

FC Nania was founded by Ayew’s father, Ghana football great Abedi Pele, and currently plays in the Division One League, the country’s second tier. The club usually stages its home matches in Legon, where Ayew has regularly been seen playing.

Ayew’s administrative involvement has drawn attention because GFA presidential candidates must satisfy eligibility conditions that include association with a GFA member. His work with Nania could therefore be relevant if he decides to pursue the position at the next election.

Reports have connected the former Black Stars captain with a potential campaign for the GFA presidency, although he has not confirmed that he will contest the 2027 election. Asked how he would respond if Ghanaians wanted him to help address the country’s football problems, Ayew indicated that public support would matter, while stressing that his priority was the growth of Ghanaian football.

The 36-year-old is also facing a decision over his playing future. He has been without a club since departing Dutch side NAC Breda in the summer, but has remained in Ghana and continued training. His growing role at Nania could mark the beginning of a move towards football administration, or form part of his activities while he considers whether to continue playing.
