Asante Kotoko bring back Richard Boadu on contract to 2028

Asante Kotoko have re-signed Ghana midfielder Richard Boadu on a contract that runs until 30 June 2028. The 28-year-old completed his return to the Ghana Premier League club on 25 August 2026 after spending a year without a team. No transfer fee has been disclosed.

Boadu previously played for Kotoko from September 2021 to August 2023. During that spell, he helped the Kumasi club win the Ghanaian championship in the 2021-22 season. His new agreement takes him back to the side he represented in domestic and continental competition.

The right-footed central midfielder left Kotoko for Egyptian club Al-Ahly in August 2023. He later joined Tunisia’s Club Africain on a free transfer in January 2025 and spent part of the 2024-25 season on loan with Libyan club Al-Tahaddy.

Boadu returned to Club Africain at the end of June before leaving the Tunisian side in July 2025. He remained without a club until his latest move to Asante Kotoko, extending his association with the Ghanaian club through the end of June 2028.

The midfielder has 103 Ghana Premier League appearances, with three goals and one assist. He has also played eight CAF Champions League matches and seven qualifying play-off games. His record in the Libyan Premier League includes six appearances, one goal and one assist during his time with Al-Tahaddy.

Born in Kumasi, Boadu began his senior career at Medeama before joining Kotoko in 2021. His return gives the club a midfielder with experience in Ghana’s top flight, the CAF Champions League, Egypt, Tunisia and Libya.
