Asante Kotoko scrap overseas pre-season due to time constraints

Asante Kotoko board chairman James Osei Brown has confirmed that the club abandoned plans to hold their pre-season preparations outside of Ghana. The decision was driven by the limited amount of time available before the start of the new season.

During a visit to the club's training camp in Accra, Brown informed the players that several international destinations had been considered. The club had evaluated options to travel to Turkey, Dubai, Côte d’Ivoire, or South Africa for their training camp before deciding to remain in the country.

Instead of traveling, the club will conduct its preparations within Accra. Brown noted that the current squad is a relatively new group of players. He stated that the club decided to assemble the best available local talent to form the team for the upcoming campaign.

This squad restructuring follows an underwhelming 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, where the Porcupine Warriors finished in eighth place. The technical team is now working to build a competitive side following those results.

The players have 16 days of preparation remaining in Accra. Following this period, the team will return to Kumasi to compete in the third edition of the Democracy Cup against rivals Hearts of Oak.
