Aston Villa officials attend Vitória de Guimarães match

Two Aston Villa representatives watched Vitória de Guimarães face Arouca as the clubs strengthen their existing relationship.

Two Aston Villa representatives attended Vitória de Guimarães' opening league match against Arouca on Saturday. The match, held at the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques, ended in a 1-0 defeat for the home side following a goal from Iván Barbero.

The visit by the Premier League club's officials is part of a strategy by the new Vitória board to foster a closer connection between the two organizations. This relationship is supported by the fact that VSports holds a 29% stake in Vitória’s SAD. The clubs have already completed two transfers this summer, with Oliwier Zych and Yeimar Mosquera moving from Aston Villa to Vitória.

Attending the match allowed Villa officials to monitor the progress of Zych and Mosquera in Portugal. The presence of representatives also provides an opportunity to scout the wider Vitória squad. Potential targets for future monitoring include 19-year-old winger Oumar Camara and 22-year-old midfielder Gonçalo Nogueira.

Other players caught the attention of those in attendance during the fixture. Arouca midfielder Taichi Fukui, aged 22, and 26-year-old winger Naïs Djouahra both delivered strong performances during the 1-0 victory for the visitors.

This ongoing cooperation provides Aston Villa with a pathway to place players in the Portuguese league for development. Regular attendance at Vitória matches also assists Villa in identifying talent within the Portuguese market before player values increase.
