Banda and Chawinga lead WAFCON scoring ahead of final

Barbra Banda and Temwa Chawinga are currently tied as the leading goalscorers at the ongoing CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Both the Zambian striker and the Malawian forward have recorded five goals each following the conclusion of the semi-final stage on Wednesday.

Chawinga enters the tournament final as a primary attacking threat for Malawi. Her side secured a place in the championship match after defeating Algeria in their semi-final fixture. Malawi is scheduled to face Cameroon in the final on Sunday to determine the winner of the competition.

Cameroon progressed to the final after overcoming the host nation, Morocco, in the other semi-final match. Marie Ngah is the most prolific scorer for the Cameroonian side, having netted three goals during the tournament so far.

South Africa's Thembi Kgatlana also sits on three goals. Several other players have recorded two goals during the competition, including Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala, Uchenna Kanu, and Rasheedat Ajibade. They are joined on that tally by Algeria's Marine Dafeur and Morocco's Sakina Ouzraoui.

As the tournament moves toward its conclusion, the race for the Golden Boot remains centered on the two players with five goals. Chawinga will have the opportunity to extend her tally during Sunday's final against Cameroon, while Banda remains at the top of the list following Zambia's exit from the competition.
