Black Queens players cite lack of government support in Morocco

Players of the Black Queens have expressed dissatisfaction regarding the minimal involvement of government officials during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The squad noted that the level of engagement from the state has been insufficient throughout their tournament campaign.

In a statement, the players highlighted that the Minister for Sports and GFA President Kurt Okraku were only present for the team's initial official training session. Since that single appearance, the players reported a lack of government presence surrounding the team, despite the importance of their performance in the competition.

The players clarified that their remarks are not meant to be disrespectful or to spark conflict with the government. They maintained that they are proud to represent the nation and remain dedicated to the national team.

These concerns follow Ghana's exit from the tournament in the quarterfinals, where they lost 2-1 to Malawi. While the defeat ended their automatic path to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup via the WAFCON semifinals, the team's global ambitions are not yet over.

The Black Queens must now compete in the African playoff route to secure a place at the World Cup. They are scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday in a match that serves as a critical step in their secondary qualification path.
