Black Queens players demand unpaid bonuses and per diems

Players of the Black Queens have formally requested that the government and relevant authorities settle outstanding financial obligations. The squad is seeking unpaid bonuses from the Egypt 2025 campaign, WAFCON qualification bonuses, and group stage bonuses. They are also demanding the payment of outstanding per diems.

In a statement, the players expressed a need for better management support for both officials and players. They specifically highlighted the importance of improved mental health and well-being resources. The group noted that they have continued to train, travel, and compete while making personal sacrifices and working under significant pressure.

The players called for increased transparency, fairness, and accountability in how the national team is managed. They insisted that financial commitments must be met on time and that player welfare should be a priority. They also raised concerns regarding the level of engagement from government officials during the current WAFCON campaign.

According to the players, Sports Minister Kofi Adams and Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku only attended the first official training session. The squad stated they have largely relied on themselves, their teammates, and the technical staff throughout the tournament. They emphasized that their statement is not meant to show disrespect or cause conflict, but rather to ensure they develop in a professional environment.

These demands follow Ghana's exit from the 2026 WAFCON after a 2-1 quarterfinal loss to Malawi. Despite this elimination, the team still has a chance to reach the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup via the African playoff route. Ghana is scheduled to play Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday for that opportunity.
