Celtic in advanced talks to sign Chelsea defender Emenalo
Celtic are negotiating a season-long loan deal for 18-year-old Chelsea prospect Landon Emenalo to provide defensive cover in Glasgow.
Celtic are currently in advanced negotiations to secure the signature of Chelsea defender Landon Emenalo on a season-long loan. The 18-year-old prospect travelled to Glasgow on Wednesday to tour the club's training facilities as discussions progress.
The move is intended to provide defensive depth for the Premiership champions, specifically addressing the lack of cover for left-back Kieran Tierney. Emenalo would represent the first defensive signing of the summer for Martin O'Neill's squad and the first player to join the club on a loan basis.
The Chelsea teenager is the son of Michael Emenalo, the former technical director at Chelsea. He is considered a highly regarded young player within the Chelsea system.
Emenalo has expressed a desire for more regular playing time in a professional setting. During a summer training camp last month, he stated that he has played sufficient youth football and wants to make a significant impression on a first team.
If the deal is completed, the defender will become the fourth new addition to the Celtic squad this summer. The club is looking to bolster its options following the recent recruitment of other players during the current transfer window.
