Celtic lead race for Slovan Liberec midfielder Ermin Mahmić

Celtic have emerged as the most likely destination for Ermin Mahmić as they look to strengthen Martin O’Neill’s attacking options. The Scottish champions have been the most active club in the pursuit of the 21-year-old over the last fortnight.

Slovan Liberec are seeking a fee between €7m and €8m to allow the Bosnia and Herzegovina international to leave. Celtic are reportedly prepared to meet this valuation. The Czech side is currently waiting for a formal offer to be submitted. While Beşiktaş have shown interest, a move to Turkey is not considered a realistic possibility at this stage.

Mahmić has already rejected offers from FC Basel and Red Bull Salzburg, both of whom proposed €4-5m plus a percentage of any future sale. The attacking midfielder, who is under contract until 2029, recorded eight goals and five assists in 31 appearances during his first season in the Czech Republic after moving from an Austrian club.

Celtic have already bolstered their frontline this summer with the arrivals of Kasper Høgh, Camilo Durán, and Haissem Hassan. Hassan joined from Real Oviedo earlier this week in a deal worth €6-7m plus bonuses. The club is currently deciding whether to proceed with Mahmić or pursue a different target.

Recent developments regarding the player's representation could facilitate a move. His family previously authorized several agents to find him a new team, and a dispute with his former agency has been resolved. Slovan Liberec have limited his recent playing time to protect him from injury, as his departure during this transfer window is expected.
