Chukwueze wins Man of the Match in Milan’s 2-1 Serie A victory

Samuel Chukwueze was named Man of the Match as AC Milan began the 2026/27 Serie A season with a 2-1 victory away to Torino on Sunday. The Nigeria international played a decisive role in the result at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

Used as a right wing-back, Chukwueze repeatedly offered Milan an outlet on the right side. He supplied the pass for the winning goal, with France international Adrien Rabiot finishing the move to give the visitors all three points.

The performance also stood out for Chukwueze’s creative output. He made four chances, the highest total recorded by any player in the match, while also registering notable figures for touches in Torino’s penalty area and possession regained.

It was a strong first league appearance under Ruben Amorim, who took charge after Chukwueze spent the previous campaign on loan at Premier League side Fulham. The Nigerian’s display supported Amorim’s decision to deploy him in a deeper wide role as Milan adjusted to the new coach’s approach.

Milan’s opening win gives them an early three points as they seek to recover from a campaign that ended outside the Champions League positions. The club has undergone a major organisational change, with Amorim appointed after a difficult spell at Manchester United. His preferred 3-4-2-1 formation is intended to bring more dynamism while requiring parts of the squad to adapt.

Chukwueze’s next league assignment will come when Milan host Akor Adams’ Venezia at San Siro. Adams played the full match as Venezia started their campaign with a 2-0 home defeat by Lecce after joining from Sevilla during the summer transfer window.
