Coventry's Miguel Brau close to Académico de Viseu loan move

Coventry City defender Miguel Brau is nearing a loan move to Portugal's Académico de Viseu after making 11 appearances during last season's promotion campaign.

Coventry City defender Miguel Brau, 24, is close to joining Portuguese second-tier club Académico de Viseu on loan. The Spanish left-back played 11 times for Coventry last season as they secured promotion to the Premier League.

The proposed move would give Brau the opportunity to play regularly in Portugal while remaining under Coventry’s control. No purchase option has been indicated, meaning the English club would retain a decision on his longer-term future after the loan spell.

Brau was not a regular during Coventry’s Championship campaign, and the move to the Premier League has made competition for appearances more difficult. He previously built his career at Granada before moving to England, and Portugal would represent another change of country for the defender.

Coventry are currently 18th in the 2026 Premier League, with no points from one match after a 3-0 defeat. Their listed recent form before that campaign record includes draws against Northampton Town and Blackburn, alongside wins over Watford, Wrexham and Portsmouth.

The loan would allow Brau to continue his development through regular football without Coventry committing to a permanent transfer. Académico de Viseu are close to finalising the deal, while Coventry’s next fixture is a home Premier League match against Hull City on August 29.
