Ibrahim Danlad returns to Asante Kotoko after two years in Ethiopia

Asante Kotoko have completed the return of goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad, who is back at the Ghanaian club after spending the past two years with Ethiopian side Coffee SC. The 23-year-old made more than 55 appearances for Coffee in all competitions and kept 28 clean sheets during his spell.

Danlad first joined Kotoko in 2016 as a teenager. He made his Ghana Premier League debut against Aduana FC during the club’s title-winning 2021/22 campaign, establishing his place in the senior set-up before moving to Ethiopia.

His progress at Kotoko also led to international recognition. He was included in Otto Addo’s Ghana squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, adding a major milestone to his early career.

The goalkeeper said his return gives him the opportunity to continue a career that has remained closely linked to Kotoko. He also believes his time in Ethiopia has brought greater maturity and experience, leaving him ready to take on more responsibility at the club.

Danlad further indicated that he would work with both returning and new teammates in pursuit of success across Kotoko’s competitions. His return brings back a player who already understands the club’s environment and the expectations attached to the position.

Kotoko Director of Football Stanley Menzo welcomed the move. Menzo, who also played as a goalkeeper, said Danlad’s World Cup experience and familiarity with Kotoko should help him contribute to the squad. He added that the goalkeeper knows the club, its surroundings and the demands placed on its players as Kotoko build a competitive group.
