David Price favors Ryan Garcia over Conor Benn in upcoming fight
Former heavyweight contender David Price believes Ryan Garcia's hand speed will be the deciding factor in his title defense against Conor Benn.
David Price has assessed the chances of Conor Benn in his upcoming welterweight bout against Ryan Garcia. The former British champion and Olympic bronze medallist believes Garcia holds an advantage in hand speed that could determine the outcome of the contest.
Garcia is scheduled to make his first defense of the WBC world title against Benn at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 12. Garcia secured the title in February after defeating Mario Barrios, a performance that included a first-round knockdown and a wide unanimous decision. However, Garcia lost a points decision to Rolando Romero in May 2025 following a year-long doping ban.
Benn enters the fight having not competed at the 147lbs weight class since 2022. His most recent victories were unanimous decision wins against Regis Prograis and Chris Eubank Jr. While Benn's speed was a notable factor in his middleweight bouts against Eubank last year, Price suggests that Garcia's speed may still prove superior.
Both fighters have faced scrutiny regarding banned substances. Benn was previously removed from a scheduled 2022 fight against Eubank after testing positive for clomifene. Price noted that while Benn possesses great hand speed, he expects Garcia's speed to be the difference-maker in the ring.
