Edo Queens arrive in Burkina Faso for 2026 WAFU-B qualifiers

NWFL champions Edo Queens have reached Ouagadougou for the 2026 WAFU-B qualifiers, with a CAF Women’s Champions League place at stake.

Edo Queens have arrived in Ouagadougou ahead of the 2026 WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers. The Nigerian champions reached Burkina Faso at about 6pm on Saturday and will open their Group B campaign against AS Garde Nationale of Niger on Monday, August 24.

The match is scheduled for 6pm at Stade 4 Août. Edo Queens will also face ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC in the group, with the leading sides advancing in the race for a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League proper in South Africa later this year.

Edo Queens travelled to the Burkina Faso capital aboard Air Côte d’Ivoire before settling at the Splendid Hotel. They began their preparations with a training session from 8am to 9am on Saturday.

The team is being guided by interim head coach Kennedy Boboye, who also manages Nigeria Premier Football League club Bendel Insurance. He has taken charge of the continental assignment because Moses Aduku is with the Nigeria Under-20 women’s team as it prepares for the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

Edo Queens enter the qualifiers as reigning Nigeria Women’s Football League champions and former WAFU-B winners. Their previous regional success gives them experience of this competition, while the opening fixture against Niger’s AS Garde Nationale provides an early chance to build momentum in Group B.

Hosts USFAS lead Group A alongside Benin’s Dynamique FC and ASOK Da-Kara Féminines of Togo. The qualifiers began on August 23, bringing together clubs from across the WAFU-B region as Edo Queens pursue another route to the continental stage.
