Ekanem Yellow Duke seeks sponsors for U17 volleyball competition

Ekanem Yellow Duke, the founder and coach of Core Play Volleyball Academy, is searching for sponsors to support her annual under-17 volleyball competition. The tournament, which features both boys and girls, has been held for three years in Abesan Estate, Lagos.

Duke has funded the youth development competition using her own personal money since its inception. While the organization Samaritan’s Feet provided equipment, balls, and kits to help start the academy, Duke noted that running the academy and the annual tournament without a major sponsor has been difficult.

The coach aims to grow the competition beyond its current reach. Although the event already attracts participants from outside Abesan Estate, Duke wants to expand the scope so the tournament gains recognition across Lagos State and other regions.

Regarding her professional identity, Duke stated that she does not wish to focus on her previous career as a volleyball player. She prefers to be recognized as a youth developer focused on building the talents of current players rather than dwelling on her past accolades.

Duke expressed a commitment to continuing her work with children despite limited financial resources. She remains focused on her coaching role and her goal of encouraging young athletes within her community through the academy.
