Fabisch names Omar Marmoush as his toughest professional opponent

Golden Arrows midfielder Jonah Fabisch has named Egypt forward Omar Marmoush as the most difficult opponent he has encountered in his professional career. The Zimbabwe international made the comments following his experience against the Manchester City player during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Fabisch faced Marmoush during Zimbabwe's 2-1 loss to Egypt in their opening Group B fixture at Stade Adrar in Agadir. While Prince Dube gave the Warriors an early lead in the 20th minute, Egypt secured the win through a 64th-minute goal from Marmoush and a stoppage-time strike by Mohamed Salah.

Marmoush earned the Man of the Match award for his role in the comeback, recording four shots on target. Fabisch, who was making his AFCON debut, described representing Zimbabwe in the tournament as the highlight of his footballing life so far.

The 24-year-old midfielder has recently moved to the South African Betway Premiership side Golden Arrows as a free agent. He joined the Durban-based club following the conclusion of his contract with German third-tier side Erzgebirge Aue.

Fabisch, who developed through the German football system with clubs including Hamburger SV and 1. FC Magdeburg II, noted that his ability to use both feet is a primary strength. He also expressed his enjoyment of playing alongside Zimbabwe captain Marvelous Nakamba during the tournament.

The midfielder, whose father previously coached the Zimbabwe national team, is now looking to find success in South Africa. He has called for support as he begins his tenure with Golden Arrows for the 2026/27 season.
