Falconets open U20 World Cup camp in south-west Poland ahead of Spain
Nigeria’s Falconets will base their U20 World Cup preparations in Trzebnica before opening their campaign against Spain on September 7.
Nigeria’s Falconets will open their training camp tomorrow in Trzebnica, a town in south-west Poland, as preparations begin for the U20 Women’s World Cup. The team is scheduled to stay at Hotel Trzebnica until September 3.
Coach Moses Aduku’s squad is expected to arrive in Poland later today before beginning work at the camp. The location will serve as the team’s base ahead of Nigeria’s opening fixture in the tournament.
Benfica Ladies striker Janet ‘Semenya’ Akekoromowei has already reached Poland from Portugal and is set to join the rest of the squad. Her arrival strengthens Nigeria’s attacking options before the competition begins.
Akekoromowei’s participation is particularly significant after her Portuguese club had previously attempted to prevent her from attending the World Cup. She is now available to work with the Falconets during their preparations.
The U20 Women’s World Cup starts on September 5, with Nigeria’s first match scheduled for September 7 against Spain. The game will be played in Sosnowlec, Poland, two days after the tournament opens.
Nigeria’s immediate focus will therefore be the Trzebnica camp and the work required before facing Spain. The squad will remain in Poland through September 3, giving Aduku and his players a defined period together before the opening match.
