Flying Eagles striker Agbejoye completes Stade Reims transfer

Nigeria Under-20 striker Abdoulaye Agbejoye has completed his move from Grassrunners FC Academy to French Ligue 2 club Stade Reims. The 18-year-old will begin his time in the club’s academy structure as he works towards senior-team football.

Agbejoye was part of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles squad at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship in Côte d’Ivoire. Nigeria reached the final before losing to hosts Burkina Faso, finishing runners-up after a strong campaign.

The forward established his reputation during last season’s Nigerian Youth League Cup with Grassrunners. He scored 19 goals in 19 appearances, finishing as the competition’s leading scorer and receiving its best-player award.

His move places him in Reims’ development group, where he will continue his progression before attempting to earn promotion to the first team. The French club has also brought in Nigerian youngster Godwin Itotomi from Grassrunners, making Agbejoye the second player from the academy to join Reims.

Agbejoye had attracted interest from several clubs during the transfer speculation around his future, including Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Brentford. Clubs in Belgium and Norway were also linked with the striker, but he has opted to continue his development in France.

The transfer provides Agbejoye with a route into European football while preserving his status as a developing player rather than placing him immediately into senior competition. His record with Grassrunners and his performances for Nigeria’s Under-20 side made him one of the country’s notable young attacking prospects.
