FUFA begins work on new strategy for Uganda women’s football
FUFA is preparing a new Uganda women’s football strategy with FIFA support after the 2019 framework expired, with stakeholder workshops set for 2026.
FUFA is preparing a new strategy to guide the development of women’s football in Uganda, with support from FIFA’s Women’s Football Development Programme. The initiative follows the expiry of the framework adopted in 2019, which has directed the women’s game in the country until now.
The new plan will assess the progress made under that framework while addressing changes, opportunities and problems that have emerged across Uganda’s women’s football system. It is intended to establish a clear direction for the next phase of development.
Its scope will cover the full pathway, from grassroots participation and youth football to the elite level and national teams. The strategy will also consider competitions, technical and other capacity development, governance, communication, commercialisation and cooperation among stakeholders.
FUFA will hold two consultative workshops during the strategy process. The first is scheduled for 31 August at Jevine Hotel Lubaga, followed by a second session on 1 September 2026 at FUFA Stadium Kadiba. FIFA will facilitate both engagements.
Representatives from across Uganda’s women’s football community will take part in the consultations. They will be invited to present their experiences, priorities and recommendations, giving stakeholders a direct role in determining the sport’s future direction.
The discussions will examine the current state of the women’s game, its achievements and its shortcomings. Participants will also identify practical steps to widen participation, improve youth development and competitions, strengthen national-team performance and technical capacity, improve governance, and raise the profile and commercial value of women’s football.
