Amoako scores as Nordsjaelland go 2-2 in Conference League

FC Nordsjaelland reached half-time at 2-2 against St Gallen in their UEFA Europa Conference League qualification playoff, with Ghanaian forward Prince Amoako Junior scoring for the Danish side. Nordsjaelland also held a 3-2 aggregate advantage at that stage of the tie.

St Gallen took control inside the opening 21 minutes at the Sitterstadion. Juho Lahteenmäki put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute, while Lukas Görtler converted a penalty seven minutes later after a VAR review confirmed the decision.

Amoako Junior reduced the deficit in the 24th minute, finishing an attack to bring Nordsjaelland back into the contest. His goal made the score 2-1 and gave the visitors a response after St Gallen’s fast start.

Nordsjaelland completed the first-half comeback when Aliou Baldé scored four minutes before the interval. The equaliser left the teams level on the night, while the Danish club remained ahead on aggregate through the combination of the away goal and the overall scoring across the tie.

The tie then shifted further towards Nordsjaelland after St Gallen lost Mihailo Stevanovic to a second yellow card in the second half. The dismissal left the Swiss side with 10 players as Nordsjaelland looked to protect their aggregate advantage.

For Amoako Junior, the goal added an important contribution in a match where Nordsjaelland had fallen two goals behind early. His finish started the recovery and was followed by Baldé’s equaliser before the interval.
