Defending champions Muthaiga Golf Club made a strong start to the 2026 Patron’s Cup, collecting 41 points on the opening day at their home course. VetLab Sports Club finished second on 23.5 points, while Kenya Railways were third in the Trophy Division with 10.5 points.
The first day consisted of foursomes involving 13 flights, with each pairing representing its club against another team. Muthaiga’s Bo Ciera and Daniel Kiragu set the tone in the opening match, defeating Morgan Chirchir and Onassis Ndegwa of Kenya Railways by six holes with four holes still to play.
Bhavnish and Neer Chandaria added another Muthaiga victory against VetLab’s Ebill Omollo and J. Mugo. Jay Sandhu and Quram Bhattii also defeated VetLab’s Mikael Kihara Junior and Chrispine Owuor, while Kushil Nathwani and Benson Murimi secured a win over Railway’s Japhet Momanyi and Saluni Meely.
Muthaiga’s 17.5-point advantage gives the champions an early cushion as they seek to retain the trophy. The Patron’s Cup continues on Saturday at the same venue with another round of foursomes, leaving the Trophy Division standings open to change.
Sigona Golf Club led the Shield Division with 37.5 points, ahead of Thika Sports Club on 25 and Nyali Golf and Country Club on 12.5. Golf Park topped the Plaque Division with 30.5 points, followed by Kiambu on 24 and Royal Nairobi on 20.5.
