Franklin Kibet targets 2027 World title and 2028 Olympics

Kenyan gold medalist Franklin Kibet aims to transition to senior athletics following his victory at the World Under 20 Championships.

Franklin Kibet has set his sights on the 2027 World Championships in Beijing and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The 19-year-old Kenyan athlete intends to secure more medals as he moves into senior competition next year.

Kibet secured Kenya's first gold medal at the World Under 20 Championships with a time of 13:28.27. This victory marks his second major title in under twelve months. He previously won the under 20 men's category at the World Cross Country Championships held in Florida.

The runner expressed his desire to reach the podium during the upcoming World Championships. He also stated his goal of participating in the Los Angeles Olympic Games. He intends to give his absolute best once he transitions to the senior ranks next year.

Kibet's recent performances include a second-place finish in the men's 5000m at the Kip Keino Classic. During that event at Nyayo Stadium, he recorded a time of 13:10.70.

His recent success at the age-grade championships follows a period of consistent performance. Having already secured a world title in cross country, the youngster is now looking toward the highest level of senior international athletics.
