Ghana defender Alidu Seidu expected to leave Rennes for Marseille
Marseille are pursuing Ghana centre-back Alidu Seidu, with Rennes holding out for an improved offer before the transfer window closes.
Ghana defender Alidu Seidu, 26, is expected to leave Stade Rennais before the transfer window closes, with Marseille trying to sign him. The centre-back remains contracted to Rennes until June 2029 after extending his agreement in 2025.
Seidu has been absent from Rennes training in recent days while his future is considered. The club has also placed Djaoui Cissé and Breel Embolo on its transfer list, with all three players expected to settle their situations before the deadline.
Marseille have submitted a proposal for Seidu, but Rennes want a higher offer. The difference between the two Ligue 1 clubs has left negotiations at a standstill, and the move has not yet been agreed.
A transfer would allow Seidu to remain in France’s top flight while taking on a different challenge. Marseille’s interest comes as Rennes prepare for the possibility of losing a defender who has been an important option when available.
Seidu joined Rennes from Clermont Foot during the 2023-24 season in a deal valued at €11 million. He made 24 appearances in all competitions last season, while his current market value is listed at €6 million.
The Ghana international’s departure is increasingly expected, but Marseille must improve their proposal before Rennes will consider releasing him. Until that happens, Seidu remains a Rennes player and the discussions between the clubs remain unresolved.
