Okoye pledges full commitment to Udinese ahead of new Serie A season
Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has dismissed transfer speculation and committed himself fully to Udinese before the 2026-27 Serie A campaign.
Maduka Okoye has reaffirmed his commitment to Udinese, saying his priority is to give his full effort to the Italian club during the 2026-27 Serie A campaign. The Nigeria international enters the season as Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper after dismissing previous links with Juventus and Inter Milan.
Okoye said he is settled in Italy and focused on his responsibilities with the club. He believes Udinese have prepared well during pre-season and are motivated to begin the campaign with clear objectives, including a stronger position in the Serie A standings.
The goalkeeper recently returned to action with a clean sheet in Udinese’s 1-0 Coppa Italia victory over Padova. That appearance followed a season in which he recorded 10 clean sheets in 30 matches, reinforcing his status as one of the team’s key players.
Okoye has also drawn a clear line between his football duties and his activities away from the pitch. The 26-year-old has attended high-profile events, including Formula One and fashion engagements, but said those interests do not affect his concentration when he is working with Udinese.
He is also confident in the club’s goalkeeping options. Edoardo Piana, who has returned to Udinese after Alessandro Nunziante’s departure, is regarded by Okoye as a talented young goalkeeper, while veteran Daniele Padelli brings experience and quality to the group.
Okoye joined Udinese after spells with Sparta Rotterdam and Watford and has established himself as a regular in Italy. His performances will also remain relevant to Nigeria, with competition for the Super Eagles’ goalkeeping position continuing ahead of the September AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
