LaLiga: Getafe’s Christantus Uche faces 2026/27 after knee surgery

Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche has had knee surgery in Lyon after a pre-season injury and is expected to miss the 2026/27 campaign.

Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche has undergone surgery after injuring his knee in pre-season, with the problem expected to rule him out for the whole of the 2026/27 campaign. The Nigeria international had the procedure in Lyon, France, on Wednesday.

Uche was injured during Getafe’s friendly against AS Monaco on August 6. The match was part of the Spanish club’s preparations for the new season, but the setback has now left the 23-year-old facing a lengthy period away from competitive football.

Getafe confirmed that the operation was successful. Uche will now start rehabilitation as he works towards regaining full fitness, although the expected recovery timeline means he is not anticipated to feature during the coming LaLiga campaign.

The injury is a major setback for a midfielder who spent the previous season in the Premier League with Crystal Palace. His loan spell in England came before his return to Getafe, where he had been part of the club’s plans ahead of the new Spanish season.

Uche’s absence will therefore extend beyond the opening weeks of the campaign and cover the full 2026/27 schedule, based on the current prognosis. His immediate focus is rehabilitation after the operation rather than a return to match action.

The Nigeria international’s next stage will be a gradual recovery programme designed to take him back to full fitness. No further timeframe for his return has been provided beyond the expectation that he will miss the entire campaign.
