Hull City making progress in pursuit of Everton's Tim Iroegbunam

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed that the club is making progress in its efforts to sign Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam. The newly promoted Premier League side is currently in discussions to bring the 22-year-old into their squad for their upcoming top-flight campaign.

Jakirovic stated that negotiations with Everton are ongoing and that the club feels encouraged by the current situation. The manager expressed his admiration for the midfielder's playing style and experience, noting that the player's profile is exactly what the team requires. While the deal could result in either a permanent transfer or a loan move, Jakirovic noted that the player entering the final year of his contract provides an advantage for Hull.

Negotiations have faced challenges, as Everton's initial valuation exceeded Hull's offers, but talks have continued. Hull is exploring various structures for the deal, including a loan that could include an obligation to buy. The midfielder, who moved from Aston Villa to Everton in 2024 for approximately £9m, is also being monitored by Ipswich Town, Coventry City, and several Italian clubs.

During the 2025-26 Premier League season, Iroegbunam recorded 29 appearances and played 1,487 minutes, contributing two assists. His physical presence and ability to win challenges are key factors in Jakirovic's interest as the manager seeks to add strength and protection to the midfield in front of the defense.

Iroegbunam's club future carries significance for the Super Eagles. Born in England to Nigerian parents, the midfielder is eligible to represent Nigeria. While he has played for England at the youth level and won the 2022 European Under-19 Championship, Nigeria coach Eric Chelle has been monitoring his eligibility. A move to Hull would allow the player to maintain his Premier League status while potentially deciding on his international future.
