Ibrahim Kasule joins KCCA in high-profile midfield move

KCCA FC has bolstered its midfield options with the signing of Ibrahim Kasule from the United States. The former Wakiso Giants player arrives from New York Red Bulls II following a reported sign-on fee of 100 million.

Kasule is a versatile attacking midfielder capable of operating as a number 10, a number 8, or a half 9. During his time in the MLS Next Pro division, he became the league's record goal scorer. His previous stint in the local league saw him record five goals and six assists in a single season.

Coach Brian Ssenyondo noted that Kasule provides exceptional quality on the ball and composure. The manager believes the new signing offers the team new tactical dimensions, particularly regarding sharpness in the final third.

His arrival creates competition within a midfield that includes Said Mayanja, Ashraf Mugume, Brian Jjara, Yunus Sibira, and Elvis Ngonde. While Kasule and Mayanja could potentially play together as two number 10s, such a setup would require a disciplined defensive midfielder to cover for their lack of defensive work rate.

Kasule's presence may impact the playing time of existing midfielders. While KCCA requires squad depth for multiple competitions, Kasule is expected to be a primary player rather than a rotational option. This shift follows the departures of Joel Sserujongi and Sharif Ssengendo, roles that have already been partially filled by Sibira and Ngonde.

Tactically, Kasule's ability to drift wide offers another option, though he competes for those spaces with players like Shafik Nana, Ettiene Katenga, and Sammy Ssebaduka. On the pitch, his creative passing is expected to benefit Charles Lwanga, while his effectiveness may depend on playing alongside an unselfish striker like Frank Ssebuufu.
