Islam Makhachev mocks Demetrious Johnson over wife permission

UFC champion Islam Makhachev joked about Demetrious Johnson needing to ask his wife for permission to travel to Dagestan for training.

UFC champion Islam Makhachev recently mocked former flyweight titleholder Demetrious Johnson regarding his marriage dynamics. During a conversation with Johnson, the Makhachev expressed disbelief that the former champion would need to seek permission from his wife before traveling to Dagestan.

Makhachev had invited Johnson to spend two to three years training in Dagestan with him and other members of Team Khabib. Johnson responded by stating that he would have to consult his wife first, noting that this is how his marriage functions. Makhachev reacted by telling Johnson that as one of the best fighters in the world, he should tell his wife about such plans rather than asking for permission.

The conversation also involved two-time featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Volkanovski plans to visit Dagestan for a few days to cook and hunt in the mountains. Makhachev encouraged the 34-year-old to stay longer to train and jokingly warned him not to follow Johnson's example by asking his wife for permission to visit.

Volkanovski replied that while he would need to ask his wife, she would likely enjoy the trip. Makhachev also used the opportunity to request help with his diet. He asked Volkanovski to assemble a nutrition team to provide better meals during fight camps, complaining that his current nutritionists provide food that is difficult to eat because it lacks salt and pepper.
