Kabras Sugar beat KCB Rugby 15-5 after comeback in Driftwood 7s final
Kabras Sugar overturned a 5-0 deficit to defeat KCB Rugby 15-5 at Mombasa Sports Club and secure their second NSC title of 2026.
Kabras Sugar came from 5-0 down to beat KCB Rugby 15-5 in the Driftwood 7s final at Mombasa Sports Club on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The victory gave Kabras Sugar their second National Sevens Circuit trophy of the year, while KCB were left to absorb a painful defeat after taking the lead.
KCB opened the scoring late in the first half when Festus Shiasi reacted quickest to a loose ball in the try area. The effort put the bankers 5-0 ahead as the opening period approached its conclusion, leaving Kabras with ground to recover after a tightly contested start.
Kabras changed the momentum after the restart by applying sustained pressure inside the KCB 22. Griffin Chao began the recovery with a kick-and-chase move, eventually reaching the ball and grounding it to bring Kabras level.
Kevin Wekesa then put Kabras in front. The Kenya international had earlier exchanged words with the referee and apologised before making his decisive contribution. He took a pass on the right, broke into KCB territory and forced his way over for Kabras’ second try.
Rayvon Ambale was unable to add the conversion, but he helped create the third score. Jackson Siketi received the ball, used a dummy to open the defence and then released Chao, who finished in the left corner. That try completed Kabras’ scoring and secured the 15-5 result.
The success follows Kabras Sugar’s triumph at the Dala 7s in Kisumu three weeks earlier. The two titles make them double winners on this year’s National Sevens Circuit, while KCB Rugby’s early advantage ultimately produced no reward in the Mombasa final.
