KCCA face final friendly test before 2026/27 UPL title push

KCCA finished second in the 2025 Uganda Premier League with 62 points from 30 matches, recording 19 wins, five draws and six defeats. They scored 46 goals and conceded 22, while their last five league matches produced three wins and two draws.

The Kampala club now face NEC at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, in a fixture that will complete their preparations for the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season. The match is part of the campaign launch and has been given importance by the technical staff beyond its promotional setting.

KCCA will use the game to examine their tactical options before competitive football begins. The coaching team is expected to look at how new arrivals combine with established players, while also checking the squad’s physical condition after the pre-season programme.

The fixture is also intended to improve KCCA’s depth and match readiness. The staff want to see whether the ideas worked on during preparation can be applied in a demanding match environment, with particular attention on how players operate together in different positions.

KCCA enter the new campaign under pressure to deliver stronger domestic consistency after ending the previous league season as runners-up. Their recent sequence offers encouragement, with victories over Mbarara City, UPDF and Maroons, alongside draws against URA and Vipers.

The club has made changes ahead of the title push, including appointing Brian Ssenyondo as head coach. The launch will also provide supporters with their first formal look at the squad expected to challenge for silverware, before the league opener against NEC at the same Lugogo venue.
