Khabo Zitha urges Banyana to use final World Cup chance

Khabo Zitha has called on Banyana Banyana to capitalize on their remaining chance to qualify for the World Cup. This follows the 2022 champions' exit from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-1 quarterfinal loss to Morocco.

Zitha suggested that the South African coaching staff should alter the starting eleven ahead of the upcoming playoff match against Nigeria. She noted that the team requires more pace and height in the attacking positions to compete effectively. Zitha believes that playing on a global stage provides essential exposure for younger players to be recognized by their peers.

Regarding the tournament's progression, Zitha observed that the early exit of former champions demonstrates how unpredictable and growing the competition has become. She pointed to Malawi as an example, noting how the underdog side managed to eliminate the defending champions to reach an unexpected position in the tournament.

While acknowledging the lack of spectators in the stadiums, Zitha maintained that the quality of play remains high. She stated that the skill and talent displayed on the pitch prove that the standard of women's football is rising across Africa. Despite the empty stands, she noted that the players appeared undeterred by the low attendance.
