Kwame Opoku nears move to AshantiGold after Kotoko exit

Striker Kwame Opoku is nearing a transfer to newly promoted AshantiGold following his departure from Asante Kotoko. Negotiations between the forward and the Miners are at an advanced stage as the club prepares for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

Opoku previously joined Kotoko in the summer of 2025 on a free transfer after stints with Olympique Khouribga and USM Alger. He committed to a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors, but his second period with the club saw him score four goals in 16 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign.

The experienced forward had a more productive 2024/25 season in the Ghana Premier League, where he netted nine goals in 17 matches. His recent form and familiarity with the domestic league have made him a primary target for AshantiGold as they seek to bolster their attacking options for their return to the top flight.

While the move is not yet official, the deal is expected to be finalized soon. AshantiGold is looking to add veteran presence to their squad to handle the demands of the Premier League. Meanwhile, Bibiani GoldStars are also tracking the striker's situation.
