Lisa Neumann recalled in Wales' 46-player WXV Series squad

Lisa Neumann has returned to the Wales setup as head coach Sean Lynn named an extended 46-player training squad for the WXV Series. The 32-year-old wing is included after missing most of the Six Nations because of a hamstring injury suffered in Wales’ opening match against Scotland.

Neumann is currently unattached after leaving Harlequins in July. Her inclusion gives Wales an experienced option as the squad begins preparations for a schedule that includes four Tests against South Africa, the USA and Japan.

Wales will host South Africa and the USA in September before travelling to Japan for two away Tests in October. The fixtures form the next phase of Lynn’s work with a squad that contains 14 players who have yet to earn a Test cap.

Among the uncapped players named are Lily Hawkins, Amy Williams, Kelsie Webster, Stella Orrin and Lucy Isaac. Their selection adds to the changes in a group described as a new-look Wales squad, while Neumann’s return provides continuity after her interrupted Six Nations campaign.

Neumann’s absence began in the first game of that tournament, when she injured her hamstring against Scotland. She then missed the majority of Wales’ Six Nations programme before returning to contention for the WXV preparations.

The training group will now work towards the September home fixtures and the October tour of Japan. For Neumann, the call-up marks a return to the international environment after her injury and departure from Harlequins.
