Lookman praises Koke and Atletico Madrid fans

Ademola Lookman has identified Atletico Madrid captain Koke as the player who has impressed him most since his arrival at the club. The 28-year-old Nigerian winger, who joined from Atalanta in a €35 million move, praised the Spanish midfielder's technical skills, specifically noting his touch, passing, and decision-making.

Lookman also spoke about the impact of the Atletico Madrid supporters. He described the energy of the fans as a revelation, noting the large crowds that attend matches and the significant support shown during away trips, such as the reception the team received at the airport in Seville.

Since moving to the club, the former Atalanta forward has integrated well into the squad and the city of Madrid. He finished his initial six months as the team's second-highest contributor for goals and assists, trailing only Julian Alvarez. His debut period included scoring in a 5-0 Copa del Rey victory over Real Betis.

During his first half-season, Lookman recorded nine goals and four assists across all competitions. This included scoring in the Copa del Rey final, a match in which he was forced off the pitch due to injury. He has maintained his form into the current pre-season, finding the net in a recent win against Getafe.

As the 2026-27 season approaches, Lookman is preparing for his first full campaign with the Spanish side. The winger may see an increased role in the squad following the departure of Antoine Griezmann to Orlando City. Atletico Madrid will begin their La Liga campaign against Malaga on August 19, following a final pre-season friendly against Olympique Marseille.
