Mamelodi Sundowns agree R28m deal for Thapelo Maseko

Mamelodi Sundowns have reached an agreement with FC Copenhagen for the transfer of winger Thapelo Maseko for a fee of €1.5 million.

Mamelodi Sundowns have reached a club-to-club agreement with FC Copenhagen for the transfer of Thapelo Maseko. The Premier Soccer League side will receive €1.5 million for the 22-year-old winger.

Personal terms between the player and the Danish club are still being finalised. However, Maseko is expected to move to Europe and the remaining details are not anticipated to prevent the deal from progressing.

The winger had fallen out of favour at Sundowns before a loan spell at AEL Limassol last season. His time in Cyprus helped revive his career and led to his inclusion in the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by Hugo Broos.

Maseko played in three of South Africa's four matches during that tournament. He scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory against South Korea, a result that secured Bafana Bafana's first-ever progression to the knockout stages.

Despite his success on the international stage, the player remained outside of the plans at Masandawana. This led the club to seek a permanent buyer for the winger. Copenhagen, which was previously the home of Sibusiso Zuma, has now secured an agreement for his services.
