Martínez and Plantić make weight for WBC interim title bout

Lester Martínez, 20-0-1 with 16 knockouts, and Luka Plantić, 13-0 with 10 knockouts, both made weight ahead of their WBC Interim Super Middleweight Championship fight. The bout will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles.

The contest will be Martínez’s first defence of the interim belt. The Guatemalan won the championship in March by beating Immanuwel Aleem, becoming Guatemala’s first professional world champion. He is from Petén and will enter the fight with the chance to strengthen his position as mandatory challenger for the undisputed 168-pound championship.

Martínez has also worked as a sparring partner for Terence Crawford, adding high-level preparation to an unbeaten record that includes one draw. His 16 stoppages underline the power that has carried him to the interim title and made this his most important assignment since winning it.

Plantić arrives from Zagreb for his toughest professional test. The Croatian represented his country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and has stopped 10 of his 13 opponents. Before challenging Martínez, he held the WBC International Silver and WBC International super-middleweight titles.

The 29-year-old has recorded notable wins over Britain’s Jack Cullen and veteran Khoren Gevor. His most recent victory came in November, when he stopped the previously unbeaten Shadiri Musa Bwogi. Plantić has therefore reached the title fight without a professional defeat and with experience against recognised opposition.
