PBC prospect Joseph Brown stays unbeaten with 60-54 win over Wiggins

Joseph Brown remained unbeaten with a unanimous-decision victory over Alton Wiggins on the August 22 undercard featuring Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Teofimo Lopez. All three judges scored the six-round junior-middleweight bout 60-54 for the 19-year-old PBC prospect, who moved to 8-0 with five knockouts.

The 6-foot-2 Brown usually relies on his jab, distance control, movement and combinations. Against Wiggins, he showed a more forceful approach while still maintaining control of the contest. He worked from the pocket in the opening round and exchanged accurately between his opponent’s attacks.

Wiggins attempted to tie up Brown repeatedly in the second round, but Brown continued to find the body with clean punches. Brown pressed forward more in the third, absorbed a right hand and answered with a right to the body. He then changed to a southpaw stance late in the round and connected with two jabs.

Brown opened the fifth round as a southpaw before switching back to orthodox and landing combinations. In the sixth and final round, he used his jab and lead right, added combination punching and displayed confidence as he completed a shutout on the scorecards.

The victory extended a perfect record that began before Brown entered the professional ranks. He finished his amateur combat career at 67-0, won six national titles across boxing and kickboxing, and also claimed a Muay Thai world championship.

Brown began his professional career with Mayweather Promotions before moving to PBC. He said he dealt with illness during fight week and had to change gloves shortly before the bout after receiving the wrong pair. He credited careful shot selection and sustained pressure for helping him secure the win.
