Mutapa Gold golf day raises US$100 000 for three hospitals in Zimbabwe

Mutapa Gold Resources’ inaugural charity golf day raised US$100 000 for three medical institutions in Zimbabwe. The event attracted between 154 and 160 golfers, including the company’s business partners and contractors.

The beneficiaries are Loretto Mission in the Midlands, Shamva Hospital and Bindura Hospital in Mashonaland Central Province. The funds will be divided equally, giving each institution a share of the money raised through the tournament.

Mutapa Gold chief executive Patrick Maseva-Shayawabaya said the company plans to make the golf day an annual event. While the tournament also provided an opportunity for networking, its main purpose was to support healthcare facilities in communities where the company operates.

The fundraiser adds to Mutapa Gold’s wider corporate social responsibility work. Its existing projects include the US$3 million Masembura Water Pipeline Project, as well as the Bindura Hospital maternity ward and rehabilitation work at Shamba Hospital.

Those hospital-related projects, together with the water pipeline, have cost nearly US$7 million. The latest donation therefore extends the company’s investment in community health and infrastructure, while directing new support to three institutions across the Midlands and Mashonaland Central.
