Namibia win two matches against Ivory Coast in Davis Cup

Namibia secured two wins from three matches against Ivory Coast on Tuesday to begin their Davis Cup Africa Group III campaign. The team won both singles contests before falling in the doubles match in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Codie van Schalkwyk won his singles match against Francky Hoimian with a 6-1, 6-2 scoreline. Connor van Schalkwyk followed this with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Moye Koffi. The Ivory Coast pair of Hoimian and Koffi prevented a Namibian sweep by defeating Steyn Dippenaar and Daniel Jauss 7-6, 6-2 in the doubles encounter.

Team captain Gert Dippenaar noted that the squad remains in good spirits. He stated that the players are healthy and positive, adding that he expects them to represent Namibia with pride.

The Namibian squad consists of captain Gert Dippenaar, brothers Connor and Codie van Schalkwyk, Steyn Dippenaar, and Daniel Jauss. The team is competing for promotion to World Group II next year.

The competition features six nations: Namibia, Benin, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Togo. The tournament began on 11 August and is scheduled to end on 15 August.

Namibia moved on to face hosts Burundi on Wednesday. The team aims to build on their opening day results to finish among the top nations in the group.
