NFA President Shimoshili pledges support for grassroots football

Namibia Football Association (NFA) President Robert Shimoshili has pledged to strengthen the national football ecosystem to support players and clubs in every region. Speaking at the Desert Rollers Sports Club annual awards in Gobabis, Shimoshili outlined a vision for improved governance and expanded grassroots opportunities.

The NFA president stated that the governing body aims to enhance coaching and refereeing standards while promoting women's football. He emphasized the importance of creating sustainable development pathways throughout all 14 of Namibia's regions. Shimoshili noted that the Omaheke region has a history of producing talented players who have represented the national teams.

During the ceremony, Shimoshili encouraged Desert Rollers FC to invest further in youth structures. He noted that today's youth are the future of the Brave Warriors, Brave Gladiators, and the next generation of officials and administrators. He also highlighted the NFA's commitment to gender equality, ensuring women and girls have the same chances to compete and succeed.

The awards ceremony recognized several individual performers from the club. Antonius Ballack Swartbooi received the Ludwig Nunuheb Young Talent Award, the Player’s Choice Award, and was named the Desert Rollers FC player of the season. Ukaurua Eddy Tjakuva won the Vijanda Munamava Development award for most improved player.

Other individual honors included the Barry Rukoro safe hands award for goalkeeper Jothan Awa-eiseb and the Golden Boot for Roy Katjiuongua Rukoro. Kamuiike Casteo Elshadaj Muundjua was named best midfielder, while Romeo Kauraisa took the best defender award. Vepukisa Tjonga won the goal of the season, and head coach Ewaldt Zuma Kavirombo received the chairperson’s legacy award.

Desert Rollers recently concluded their campaign in the Namport Omaheke Football Second Division. The club finished the 2025/26 season in third position.
